Thousand Oaks High School’s mission is to “Inspire, Challenge, and Empower Every Lancer, Every Day.”
In keeping with that mission, all students are encouraged to challenge themselves by choosing academically rigorous courses. TOHS offers a wide variety of Honors and Advanced Placement courses. Students who meet the course prerequisites and request AP or Honors level courses are automatically scheduled in those classes.
TOHS empowers students who do not meet the prerequisites for an Honors or Advanced Placement course by allowing them to choose to challenge themselves by “stepping up” a level. All students may access these courses.
This Academic Waiver process permits students to take on the challenge of Honors and AP level courses while informing students and parents about possible results of that choice. A separate waiver needs to be completed for each Honors/AP class the student is requesting. Once student and parent/guardian/caretaker have completed this waiver, the student’s schedule will reflect the requested course, provided space is available.
